This rare and unusual medal measures 50mm across. The obverse features the cloth halls of Ypres and is taken directly from the design by J Weiner on a medallion from 1849.
The reverse is simply and poignantly engraved 'Gratitude. 18th June 1927'
I have been unable to find another example of this type. The date slightly precedes the Inauguration of the Menin gate, and I am assuming that it is a civic commemorative issue.
