The citation states:

'Sgt Stanton distinguished himself by gallantry in action on April 3rd, 1945, while commanding the leading tank in the advance from GRONAU to OCTRUP (V 6302). At first light he was held up by a road block where it was impossible to get off the road. There he was subject to sniping and two bazookas were discharged unsuccessfully at his tank, but he persevered in his attempt to knock aside the block, which consisted of felled trees, and succeeded in clearing a way. Later he met another block, covered by a 75mm SP A/tk gun, and was unable to get through but ultimately found a track round to the right, down which he continued the advance. By this time it was dark and he had to lead the way down a narrow path in boggy country through trees, where the enemy were known to be in strength. One of his tanks was blown up on a mine but he succeeded in finding a way back on to the main road in the dark and into OCTRUP.

Throughout a long and trying day Stanton persistently maintained the advance with great courage and determination and refused to be deterred by sniping, bazookas, A/tk guns or mines, from forcing his way to the objective through bad country and in bad light.

Sold with metal identity tag numbered '7892952', and case of issue for the Silver Star, together with copied research.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1416/1442/files/201_1_9e8a38dd-9499-42e7-b878-04c94e486ee1.jpg?v=1779278182
https://www.coins4all.co.uk/products/ww2-usa-silver-star-campaign-group-of-7-stanton-county-of-london-yeomanry
