WW1 Medals. Alfred short, R.E. Killed Somme 5th August 1916.
Alfred Short entered the western front on 31st May 1915, serving with 87th Field Company, Royal Engineers. He died on 5.8.16 during the Somme campaign ( as did 2 other members of 87th field company) and is commemorated at the Aveluy communal cemetery extension, Somme.
The medals are as issued with short lengths of original ribbon, and named to 61963 Spr A Short. R.E.
Included are an original photo of Alfred in uniform, and a photo of another family member. Also the medal boxes and the postage envelopes in which the medals were sent to his widow in Chiswick, London. The envelopes/boxes are tatty.
The victory medal that should be in this group is missing.
