British War and Victory Medals (J.69483 A. H. Libby. A.B. R.N.); Naval General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Palestine 1936-1939 (J.69483 A. H. Libby. C.P.O. R.N.); 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Africa Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45; Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (J.69483 A. H. Libby. P.O. H.M.S. Lucia.) Previously polished, the WW1 pair more so. Overall very fine.
Augustus Herbert Libbywas born at Polperro, Cornwall on 19 June 1900 and enlisted with the Royal Navy as Boy Class II on 16 April 1917. Posted afloat first to the light cruiserDublin, at the time serving with the 2nd Light Cruiser Squadron attached to the Grand Fleet. Rated Ordinary Seaman upon reaching his majority on 19 June 1918 Libby was further advanced Able Seaman the next year on 22 October.
Going ashore in 1920 he was advanced Leading Seaman there in June before joining the BattleshipResolution. Advanced Petty Officer on 19 January 1925 with the BattleshipEmperor of IndiaLibby joinedDolphinfor submarine training in November the following year.
Posted first toL25he was later part of a major draft to the Far East, joining the 4th Submarine Squadron at Hong Kong in 1927. Returning to Britain in 1930 Libby remained there for several years before joining the 2nd Submarine Flotilla in 1933. It was with this unit that he saw action in Palestine during the Arab Revolt.
Advanced Chief Petty Officer there he saw service in the Atlantic and Africa, being further promoted Boatswain on 3 January 1942. His home service during this time included a period at the training basesWestern IslesandGlendower; sold together with copied service papers, photographs, and a typed biography.
