This is a most unusual set of six coins from 1840, comprising the Halfcrown, Sixpence, and Maundy 4d, 3d, 2d and 1d.
The coins are uncirculated and in their original state of preservation. They are deeply toned with a pearlescent finish, with coulours ranging from blue/black to red/green/gold. A few very minor contact marks are evident. They come in a bespoke leather silk lined period case.
It is possible that this set is from the official maundy issue of that year, including 3 shillings (The Halfcrown and the Sixpence) from the 30 shillings included at the ceremony. I have no evidence to support this, but these coins were clearly put away at the same time.
