Walter Bannerwas born at St. Giles, Edinburgh in 1881 and attested into the Volunteer Cycle Company of the Royal Scots at Berwick-on-Tweed 26 March 1901. Posted to South Africa on 14 May 1901 he was one of just 141 names upon their roll for the war. He was discharged on 5 July 1902.
Mobilised for service in the Great War he entered the war in France on 22 November 1914 with the Army Service Corps. He appears on the roll of the 1st (Indian Cavalry) Supply Column, 82nd Company as a Sergeant.
An interesting group with the QSA to a scarce unit.
