Mary, Sole Reign (1553-1554), Groat, crowned bust left, rev. square-topped shield over cross fourchée, 2.01g, 7h, m.m. pomegranate (North 1960; Spink 2492), rough-chipped with a resulting hairline flan split from 11 o'clock and through the crown, slightly concave, otherwise an atypically strong portrait for this notoriously soft issue, struck details near very fine, and attractively toned.
