WW1 Pair. Stiff. Bedfordshire Regiment. P.O.W.

£96.00

A WW I British War and Victory pair, naming 20376 PTE. H.G. STIFF. BEDF. R., together with a Continental Beaucourt Argentum Nickel cased open face pocket watch,  the inner case back crudely engraved Herbert Stiff 20376, on a curb link Albert chain with swivel fob.

Herbert George Stiff signed up for duty in April 1915 and later became a Prisoner of War, captured at Ypres. He is recorded as being at Giessen Prisoner of War camp on 7th June 1916, having been listed as missing presumed dead in April. He survived the war, returning home in December 1918, and his pension records show him as living at West End, Earith, Huntingdonshire.

The medals are VF with original ribbons and ribbon bar as pictured. Herberts pocket watch is not currently in working order. The balance is fine but the ratchet on the mainspring is not working. The watch ticks nicely under tension. The back doesn't clip shut.
