Charles Goode was born in 1896 in Camden Town, London and enlisted with the 2nd Royal Berkshire Regiment as a Private in February 1914. He embarked for Le Havre with his unit in November 1914 and served in the 25th Brigade, 8th Division. Goode was later transferred to the 5th Royal Berkshire Regiment and finally to the 1st Royal Berkshire Regiment, with whom he was serving when he was discharged on 7 January 1919 due to wounds. He is entitled to a silver war badge.
After working as a bootmaker, Goode joined the Royal Navy in August 1921 and began service as an Officer's Cook Class III on the H.M.S. Victory II and signed on for the twelve year engagement in 1922. He earned his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1932 after serving with the H.M.S. Dolphin, the designation for the submarine base at Gosport. Goode was discharged in January 1934 following the termination of his twelve year engagement; sold together with copied research.
Goode is entitled to a clasp for his 1914 Star, and the clasp is included though not attached to the medal.
