Thomas Mason was born at Salford, Manchester circa 1839 and made his living as a mechanic. He enlisted with the 53rd Regiment of Foot at Manchester on 15 February 1860 and spent the next 18 years with the Colours during which he spent over three years posted in Canada and also served overseas in the West Indies and Bermuda. Mason was discharged at Aldershot on 5 December 1878 and after his discharge intended to return home to Manchester and reside at College Street; sold together with extensive copied research.
