This delightful item is made from 2 guineas dated 1798 and 1773. The ridge inside the case suggests that it was once glazed and used as a locket. Both guineas are hinged and fold out as pictured, allowing a view from both sides. It opens easily and clips closed securely.
The jump ring has a period hallmark for 18ct gold (no date letter) and the assumption is that the rest of the mount is of a similar standard. The coins are 22ct.
There is wear through use to the outer faces as pictured. Overall a lovely thing, and unusual as most guinea fobs from this period were one sided.
