£29.00

The Isle of Man's Second Christmas Double Crown.

1981 Christmas Double Crown 50p Cupro-Nickel Diamond Finish, enclosed in a Christmas Card, with 'Season's Greetings' in six different languages.

On its reverse face, the isle of Man 1981 Christmas double Crown illustrates a traditional Manx Yuletide custom, practised by the fishermen of Peel. this 19th century scene pays tribute to the fact that 1981, the centenary of the National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen, has been designated Fishermen's Year.
The design shows Peel Harbour at the turn of the century; the hills to the left and St. German's Cathedral on the right. The boats are Manx 'Nickeys' under full sail, leaving harbour on St. Stephen's Day - the day after Christmas. Their mastheads are decorated with garlands of evergreens and ribbons - a time-honoured Manx Yuletide tradition. The figures in the foreground on the quay are dressed in late 19th century costume. To the right of the numerals can be seen a tail-less Manx cat.

The staining on the card is due to the old glue used, otherwise as issued with its COA and envelope.
