Miniature. WW2 group of 6. Instructor Commander J.C.Gascoigne R.N.

The mounted group of six miniature dress medals worn by Instructor Commander J. C. Gascoingne, Royal Navy, who was 'mentioned' for his service aboard H.M.S. Kent on the Arctic Convoys.

John Cleland Gascoigne was born on 25 August 1913 at Wakefield and was educated at Imperial College, London. He was commissioned Instructor Lieutenant on 25 September 1935 and had published On the combination of observational data with H. Levy in 1935, which appeared in Proceedings of the Physical Society, Volume 48, 1936.

He served on H.M.S. Kent during her time on the Arctic Convoys in 1942-43, which included providing cover for QP10, PQ16, RA51 and JW52, the last on which Kent was attacked by U-625. Having earned his 'mention' (London Gazette 2 June 1943, refers) and an O.B.E. by War's end, he was Fleet Meteorological Officer at St Angelo from March 1948 and later served with the Naval Education Service.
